The writers strike and you

What does the seemingly inevitable writers strike mean to you and me, the average TV viewer?

Take a look at that video above and if you agree, help spread the word.Well it means scripted shows that we all know and love will end their seasons prematurely and reruns will ensue.

The first shows to be effected by a strike would be the late night comedy shows..Late Night with David Letterman, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, SNL and so on..

Then it is said that the soap operas will be the next ones to feel it..The last time there was a writers strike, producers and other soap opera execs took pen to paper and wrote the stories for the soaps.  But most were inconsistent with what was currently going on and the soaps lost viewers.

Some wonder if the soaps can survive this strike..viewership has been down since the last OJ trial..and with the strike and with another OJ trial on the horizon, the soaps are rather treading water.

Scripted primetime TV series will be among the last hit..most series are expected to run out of fresh episodes by sometime in January.

The super powered show on Monday nights, is said to be retooling its 11th episode to be more of a season finale.  The show following that, should have its initial journey of 13 episodes in the can and ready for airing.

Reality shows will be more visible in the event of a strike, also game shows and news magazines will be deployed to fill the void.

The networks are said to be willing to pretty much write off the rest of this season..keep in mind this also effects scripted shows on cable as well.

Us as viewers of TV shows, should urge both sides to continue to talk.

As we have seen with Jericho, the writers are key elements to a great story. As without the writers doing their jobs so well, Jericho would not have had the compelling story to be told.

Also the networks are a key element to TV as well, if CBS had not given Jericho the green light, the show never would have made it to air.  And none of us would have seen what a great story there is to be told for years to come on Jericho and would have fought so hard to bring Jericho back.

I for one, do not want to see an ocean of reality shows..I like seeing a great story being told on TV series.  I have enough reality in my own life, I want to get lost in a TV series that tells a compelling and complex story.

As a simple fan of the only network TV series that I watched last season, Jericho..I ask both sides to please keep talking and if there is a strike, to please keep talking and keep in mind that there are millions of viewers that are waiting for these great stories to be told.
